October has hosted several events that have been part of the BOLD agenda in terms of participation and organization for the last few years.
On October 23, 25 and 26, the III Congress on Equality and Human Resources in the Health Sector was held in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, a meeting that brings together those responsible for personnel and equality policies in the public and private healthcare sector to discuss key issues such as the gender perspective, the emotional wellbeing of personnel and talent retention.
The Equality and Human Resources Congress has been a resounding success in its format, with full attendance at all presentations and participation in the presentations.
Some general conclusions we were able to gather were that in terms of equality, there is still a long way to go to achieve true gender equality at all levels. Cases of women leaders in organizations or research teams are still rare, and women need to work much harder to reach positions of responsibility. In addition, we were able to learn how the professional and personal careers of the few who succeed are impressive. As for gender violence, the data continue to be alarming despite the misinformation that circulates.
In the area of Human Resources in the health sector, it was concluded that Spain does not suffer a greater shortage of professionals than other similar countries, and the number of professionals who emigrate is not as high as perceived. However, it is necessary to rethink the model in order to optimize existing resources, such as the saturation of the emergency department with cases that should be treated in primary care.
Emphasis was placed on the importance of working on the polyvalence of healthcare professionals, making organizations more flexible and redefining care systems. To retain and engage the best professionals, it is essential to facilitate work-life balance and avoid demotivation from the outset and encourage the retention of that talent.
